Rules Snapshot

This summary is backed by the official conference rules page linked below.

Two-team ties start with head-to-head results, then move to common-opponent comparisons and conference-opponent strength.
Multi-team ties first compare tied teams against each other when possible, then move into common-opponent and highest-seed comparisons.
If the official source does not expose enough current game-level context, the calculator preserves the live tie and explains that the next rule step cannot be verified yet.

Does this tool use manual standings entry?

No. It is designed to fetch official SEC and ACC standings and conference tiebreak context automatically, then cache the latest healthy snapshot.

Why can some ties remain unresolved?

Some official standings pages do not expose every game-level comparison needed to finish a live tiebreak. In those cases the tool keeps the tie visible and explains which official rule step still needs more source detail.

What counts as a top-4 bye here?

Both conferences place the top four seeds directly into the quarterfinal round, while seeds five through eight receive a single bye into the second round.
